The story
On 15 December 2000, the IAAF formally ratified two junior women’s pole vault marks by Yelena Isinbayeva and an outdoor women’s 20,000-metre race-walking record by Kristina Saltanovic.
How it unfolded
Isinbayeva’s indoor mark was 4.45 metres, achieved in Volgograd on 4 February. Her outdoor junior mark was 4.40 metres in Tula on 24 July, improving the previous 4.36-metre record set by Germany’s Yvonne Buschbaum in June 1999.
The wider picture
Saltanovic recorded 1:35:23.7 in Kaunas on 3 August, bettering Ailing Xue’s previous 1:37:19.1. This is news of the December administrative approval, not a claim that the performances happened that day. Indoor, outdoor and junior categories remain separate in the official release.
