The story
The World All-Stars defeated the North America All-Stars 9–4 in the 50th NHL All-Star Game at Air Canada Centre in Toronto on 6 February 2000. The NHL's official retrospective records an attendance of 19,300 and identifies Pavel Bure as the game-winning scorer and most valuable player.
How it unfolded
Bure completed a hat-trick and added an assist as the World team turned a 5–4 score after two periods into a five-goal victory with four unanswered goals in the third. The completed exhibition is counted once as one underlying sporting event, rather than being split into separate reports for the score, MVP award and individual goals.
The wider picture
The official NHL account also records the pre-game ceremony in which a number 99 banner was raised and Wayne Gretzky's number was retired across the league.
