Result

Carole Montillet of France won the women's World Cup super-G at Garmisch-Partenkirchen on 16 February 2001 by the smallest possible margin recorded to hundredths. Her time of 1:23.15 beat Austria's Renate Goetschl by 0.01 seconds. Brigitte Obermoser, also of Austria, was third at 0.21 behind.

Competition detail

Montillet's compatriot Regine Cavagnoud placed fourth, 0.33 seconds off the winning time, while Sweden's Pernilla Wiberg took fifth at 0.42. Italy's Isolde Kostner followed in sixth at 0.64. The top three were separated by just over two tenths, making the distinction between victory and second place particularly narrow.

The official result also lists Melanie Turgeon ninth and Corinne Rey-Bellet tenth. Janica Kostelic finished fifteenth in this speed event; the meeting's slalom was a separate competition scheduled for 18 February. Montillet's super-G result should not be merged with, or mistaken for, that technical race.
