Result and announcement
Yuliya Chepalova won the women's 1 km freestyle World Cup sprint in Nove Mesto on 4 February 2001. Anita Moen finished second and Claudia Kuenzel third. FIS lists Chepalova under the spelling Julija Tchepalova in its historical results, while contemporary reporting confirms the same winning athlete and podium order.
Detail
Elina Pienimaeki took fourth, Eva Kjerstadmo fifth and Aino Kaisa Saarinen sixth. Arianna Follis, Maj Helen Sorkmo, Karin Moroder and Anita Olsen followed in seventh through tenth. Manuela Henkel was eleventh, showing the difference between the final order and the separate timed qualifying standings at the same meeting.
Context and dates
Chepalova also headed that qualifying list, but Pienimaeki and Moroder were second and third there. The final podium instead included Moen and Kuenzel. Treating the qualifying times as final-race margins would therefore misrepresent the completed competition; no such times are attached to the podium in this report.
The women's result is separate from the men's sprint won by Morten Broers on the same programme. Each completed category is one sporting development, rather than a series of reports for its qualifying and final stages. The archive date records the exact competition day verified by the FIS event programme, independently of when this historical report was added.
