Result and announcement

Thomas Alsgaard won the men's 10 km classic World Cup race in Otepaa, Estonia, on 10 February 2001. The Norwegian's time of 24 minutes 00.4 seconds was 1.2 seconds faster than Per Elofsson's. Janne Immonen completed the podium, 4.9 seconds behind the winner.

Detail

The narrow margin left just 3.7 seconds between second and third. Estonia had two athletes immediately behind the medallists: Andrus Veerpalu finished fourth at 10.6 seconds and Jaak Mae fifth at 15.3. Frode Estil was sixth, with Mathias Fredriksson and Odd-Bjoern Hjelmeset seventh and eighth.

Context and dates

Harri Kirvesniemi and Sami Repo completed the top ten. The leading five were covered by only 15.3 seconds, before a larger gap to Estil at 28.4 seconds. These intervals describe the official completed classification; they are not estimates of position at intermediate checkpoints or a claim about how a particular section of the course was raced.

The FIS programme pairs the men's 10 km classic with a women's 5 km classic on the same date. Alsgaard's result is counted once as the completed men's race. The archive preserves that exact sporting day and the official elapsed time, while keeping the modern publication timestamp separate. Independent contemporary reporting also confirms his 1.2-second winning margin.
