Result and announcement

Odd-Bjoern Hjelmeset won the men's World Cup sprint in Asiago, Italy, on 1 February 2001. Trond Iversen took second and Jens Arne Svartedal third, giving Norway all three places on the final podium. The FIS programme identifies the race as a 1.5 km freestyle sprint final.

Detail

Klaus Mariotti Dordi was the highest-placed Italian in fourth, immediately behind the Norwegian trio. Morten Broers and Jan Jacob Verdenius, both representing Norway, occupied fifth and sixth. Thobias Fredriksson of Sweden finished seventh, followed by Italy's Bruno Debertolis and Loris Frasnelli in eighth and ninth.

Context and dates

Giorgio Di Centa completed the top ten and Fulvio Valbusa finished twelfth. The classification therefore records both Norway's concentration at the front and several Italian finishers near the leading group on home snow. Contemporary Slovenian reporting independently described the Norwegian sweep alongside the women's result at the same meeting.

This report follows the completed sprint classification, not the separate qualifying list. FIS lists both stages on the same date; qualification is not counted as another underlying result here. The exact competition day is retained as the historical archive date. No final-heat time is supplied in the classification reviewed, so a winning time or margin is not inferred.
