Result and announcement

Hertha BSC won 3-1 at VfL Bochum on 3 February 2001, with substitute Kai Michalke scoring the visitors' final two goals. Michael Preetz had given Hertha a first-half lead at the Ruhrstadion, but Bochum equalised through Peter Peschel before Michalke settled the contest in the second half.

Detail

Preetz scored in the 32nd minute. Michalke entered for Sebastian Deisler in the 43rd, so he was already on the field when Peschel made it 1-1 in the 63rd. Three minutes later Michalke put Hertha back in front. His second goal, recorded in the 90th minute, extended the final margin to two.

Context and dates

The 0-1 half-time score should not be confused with the completed 1-3 result. Bochum briefly drew level, but Hertha responded immediately and did not concede again. Ralf Zumdick coached the home side and Juergen Roeber the visitors before 15,302 spectators. The official DFB match record supplies the date, scoring sequence and substitution that distinguish this report from a bare score listing.
