Kanık and Turhan selected for EuroHockey’s 2026 U4E programme
The 2025 selection announcement named two Türkiye umpires for the following year’s European development pathway.
Event date:
The Türkiye selections
EuroHockey named Sultan Kanık and Neşet Ali Turhan among the umpires selected for the 2026 Umpires for Europe programme. Both were listed with Türkiye in the announcement published on 29 October 2025. This archive report records that selection, rather than presenting it as a new October 2026 appointment.
The development pathway
The programme combines technical learning, match-management development and mentoring. EuroHockey described online sessions and practical tournament experience as complementary elements of the year-long pathway, alongside its separate Umpires for Nations programme.
What the announcement establishes
The published plan scheduled a joint theoretical seminar in Prague for 16–18 January 2026 and practical activity at European tournaments on 3–5 April. Selection and the planned programme are documented; the announcement alone does not establish either umpire’s attendance at each session or completion of the course.
International selection context
The selection list is the primary evidence for the international appointment. It places Kanık and Turhan in the Umpires for Europe group, which EuroHockey presented as a development route for officials working toward broader European experience. The announcement also listed participants from other national associations, showing that the Türkiye pair were selected within a multinational cohort rather than through a domestic-only course. This report does not infer rankings, promotions or match appointments that the selection notice did not publish.
Federation profile context
The Türkiye Hockey Federation’s public umpire profiles independently establish both officials’ identities and national-register roles. At the 4 October 2026 retrieval snapshot, Kanık’s profile displayed 391 recorded officiating assignments across on-field, scorekeeping, timekeeping and reserve duties, while Turhan’s profile displayed 963 across the same categories. Those changing career totals provide context for the people named by EuroHockey; they are not treated as figures current to the 2025 announcement and do not prove participation in any later programme session.
Chronology and precision
The historical date is therefore tied to EuroHockey’s 29 October 2025 publication, with day-level precision. The programme itself was planned for 2026, but moving the story to 2026 would misstate when the selection decision became public. Keeping the announcement date, planned seminar dates and later federation-profile snapshot separate preserves the chronology: selection is confirmed, planned activities are described as plans, and no completion claim is made without a subsequent official record.
Selection is not a match appointment
The archive entry also distinguishes the selection from later match appointments. Umpire development pathways can include education, observation and practical work, but an invitation to the pathway is not itself evidence that a named official handled a particular match. For that reason, the report records only what the cited organisations publish: EuroHockey confirms the two selections and planned structure, while the national federation profiles confirm the officials and their register histories. Any later assignment or completion would require its own dated source and a materially new follow-up report.
