Josh Hoey lowers the world indoor 800m record to 1:42.50
The American cut more than a second from the previous short-track world record at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston.

Josh Hoey ran 1:42.50 for 800 metres at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, improving the world short-track record. The performance came on Boston's 200-metre banked track and was later ratified by World Athletics.
The mark followed Hoey's breakthrough global indoor title in 2025 and reset the standard for one of athletics' central middle-distance events. Record ratification confirms timing, track, technical and anti-doping requirements before a performance enters the official list.
