ANOC confirms Berraf and Blanco as presidential candidates
ANOC's 13 October announcement names Mustapha Berraf and Alejandro Blanco as presidential candidates and sets out the next assembly preparations.
The Association of National Olympic Committees named Mustapha Berraf and Alejandro Blanco as candidates for its presidency in an announcement dated 13 October. Berraf is president of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa and represents Algeria, while Blanco leads the Spanish Olympic Committee. The confirmation establishes the nominated candidates; it does not announce an election winner or a completed transfer of office.
ANOC said both men obtained the required national Olympic committee nominations and endorsements before the 9 September deadline. It also stated that their candidacies had been confirmed to national Olympic committees before 9 October. The public release therefore records a stage in the election process rather than providing a precise new nomination decision date.
The election's wider framework was set out when ANOC opened nominations in July, specifying a four-year presidential term covering 2026–2030. The General Assembly is scheduled for December in Hong Kong. The nomination rules required a candidate to be proposed by one national Olympic committee and endorsed by at least one other. The assembly will also elect the senior vice president, giving the meeting responsibility for more than the presidency alone.
