Australia edge Japan 83–82 to complete U18 Asia Cup three-peat

Australia defeated Japan 83–82 in the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup final at Karisma Arena in Seremban on 10 October 2026, winning the continental title for a third consecutive edition.
Japan led 23–19 after the first quarter, but Australia moved 41–37 ahead by half-time and carried a 62–56 advantage into the fourth period. Japan then scored 26 points in the final quarter to force a last-possession finish.
Miya Takeuchi’s three-pointer with 3.7 seconds remaining gave Japan an 82–81 lead. After an Australia timeout, Olivia Olechnowicz found Madison Ryan, whose short jumper with one second left restored the Australian lead at 83–82.
Ryan completed a 17-point, 17-rebound performance. Takeuchi scored 25 points and supplied six assists; FIBA subsequently named her the tournament’s Most Valuable Player despite Japan finishing runner-up.
