Ali Haydar Demirel
Sports-medicine professor, Hacettepe University Doping Control Centre acting coordinator and 2026 High Performance Science Board member.
Life and work
The story behind the role.
Ali Haydar Demirel is a sports-medicine and exercise-physiology professor whose institutional record spans Hacettepe University’s Faculty of Sport Sciences and Faculty of Medicine. Hacettepe’s academic profile classifies his work in medicine, sports medicine, human physiology and sport physiology and records more than 160 publications, 25 projects and 13 supervised theses at the October 2026 review.
Hacettepe records a professorship in Exercise and Sport Sciences from 2005, former management of the School of Sport Sciences and Technology in 2012–2013, a faculty deanship from 2018, and service as deputy chair of the Sports Sciences Association from 2021. The current university structure lists him as acting coordinator of the Doping Control Centre; the academic system separately marks him as a former researcher, so historical university titles are not presented as a new current employment claim.
On 30 January 2026 the Ministry of Youth and Sports named him among the eight members attending the High Performance Science Board meeting on evidence-led Olympic preparation. Türkiye Dopingle Mücadele Komisyonu had earlier identified him as director of the Hacettepe Türkiye Doping Control Centre during the June 2022 WADA symposium in Lausanne.
