Life and work
The story behind the role.
Banu Can Schürmann was born in Ankara in 1978. VakıfBank records her graduation from Middle East Technical University's Physical Education and Sport department, a master's degree at Ankara University and a doctorate at Gazi University, followed by work as a research assistant in Gazi University's coaching-education department from 2002 to 2012.
Her playing career included Emlak Bankası, SSK and VakıfBank. She later managed İnterfarma, İller Bankası and Emlak TOKİ and worked with Türkiye's national teams from 2002 to 2007; she also served as a CEV Executive Committee vice-president from 2005 to 2020 and has served on FIVB control committees since 2007. The club lists coaching, swimming, first-aid, sports-massage and recreation qualifications and currently identifies her as VakıfBank's general manager.
