Professor emeritus and sports-medicine researcher whose former IOC science leadership focused on athlete health and injury prevention.

Life and work
The story behind the role.
The Norwegian School of Sport Sciences lists Lars Engebretsen as Professor Emeritus in its Department of Sports Medicine. His academic and clinical work is associated with orthopaedics, sports injury research and the protection of athlete health.
The International Olympic Committee states that Engebretsen led its Scientific Activities from 2007 until retiring in December 2024. Roald Bahr succeeded him on 1 January 2025, so the IOC leadership post is recorded here as a completed role rather than a current appointment.
