Mustafa İlker Coşkun
Football referee whose sporting background includes basketball coaching and university American football.
Life and work
The story behind the role.
Born in Ankara in 1979, he completed physical education teaching studies at Middle East Technical University (METU). He played youth football for PTT, later Türk Telekom, between ages twelve and sixteen.
His 2012 TFF interview explicitly records coaching METU’s women’s basketball team between 1997 and 2002, as well as head- and assistant-coaching work with boys’ and girls’ youth teams. He played American football at university between 1997 and 1999.
He began refereeing at sixteen after attending a course in Yozgat and reached classified refereeing in 1999. He explained how coaching experience helped him understand players and technical staff as a football referee.
