Peter Brukner is an Australian specialist sport and exercise physician whose work has combined clinical practice, team medicine, research, teaching and sports administration. La Trobe University records that he helped establish sport and exercise medicine as a recognised specialty in Australia, co-founded the Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in 1987 and later founded Imaging @ Olympic Park in 2010.
His national-team appointments included the Australian athletics, swimming, men's hockey, men's football and men's cricket teams. La Trobe records that he was Socceroos team doctor through the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Australian men's cricket team doctor from 2012 to 2017, and Head of Sports Medicine and Sports Science at Liverpool Football Club from 2010 to 2012.
Brukner's academic work has included the foundation chair of La Trobe's Sport and Exercise Medicine Research Centre and a current professorship in sports medicine. The university also documents his writing and public-health work, including co-authorship of Clinical Sports Medicine and co-founding the SugarByHalf campaign.
