Zeynep Ayşen Akın graduated from Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine, specialised in family medicine at İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital and completed a biochemistry doctorate at Dokuz Eylül University. The federation profile also records postgraduate work in ageing health and certificates in sport, workplace and tourism medicine.
Akın previously worked as a family-medicine specialist at İzmir Alsancak State Hospital and is listed at Kültür Family Health Centre. She chairs the Türkiye Sailing Federation's Health and Anti-Doping Board.
