What the publication reports
Fifteen reports representing 13 studies showed small additional mean effects for aerobic capacity (g = 0.30), anaerobic performance (0.32) and sport-specific performance (0.44). Heterogeneity was low in the main analyses.
Limits and interpretation
All samples were male, certainty was low, prescriptions varied and safety reporting was insufficient. The findings do not support routine or unsupervised adoption.
