What the publication reports
Thirty players were randomized equally. Compared with control, contrast training improved 10- and 30-m sprint times, early sprint mechanics, change of direction, countermovement jump, isometric strength, kicking distance and kicking velocity; maximal sprint velocity did not improve, and Yo-Yo performance rose similarly in both groups.
Limits and interpretation
The single small sample consisted only of 17-year-old male players, the intervention lasted 12 weeks and several outcomes were tested. Results may not transfer to female, younger or elite cohorts.
