What the publication reports
Hypoxic interventions produced a small pooled improvement in swimming performance, with a standardized effect of -0.34. Maximal oxygen uptake, peak heart rate and peak ventilation did not show clear changes.
Limits and interpretation
Many included studies had risk-of-bias concerns, especially around randomization and intervention delivery. Small samples and exploratory distance or altitude subgroups limit prescription-level conclusions; the review does not establish the mechanism or a universally optimal protocol.
