What the publication reports
The dataset covered 486 athletes and 6,002 athlete-days. Injury incidence was 29.4 per 1,000 athlete-days and was higher before competition than during it; head, face or neck and knee injuries were most common, and 10% of injuries implied more than 28 days lost.
Limits and interpretation
Surveillance depends on medical reporting and expected time loss, combines different Games contexts and cannot establish which prevention measures would reduce injury.
