What the publication reports
Thirty athletes were randomized and 28 completed follow-up. The guidance group had lower body-fat percentage and higher fat-free mass after the intervention, assessed using DXA and bioimpedance, alongside better handgrip strength. Controls showed no comparable body-composition improvement.
Limits and interpretation
The trial was small and from one national setting, and handgrip strength does not demonstrate better event performance. Body-composition changes should not be interpreted as a universal target for athletes or evidence that lower body fat is always beneficial.
