One week of a specific probiotic increased treadmill exercise duration
Thirty-six athletes completed both periods of a trial comparing one week of SLAB51 with placebo, separated by a two-week washout. Researchers assessed treadmill exercise duration and physiological markers at baseline, after a single dose and after one week.

What the publication reports
The crossover-adjusted post-hoc model estimated 33.32 seconds longer exercise duration after one week of SLAB51 (95% CI 17.42–49.22). Some antioxidant-enzyme and respiratory-exchange measures also differed, but maximal oxygen uptake, lactate removal and malondialdehyde showed no significant treatment-by-time interaction.
Limits and interpretation
The short, product-specific study and per-protocol sample limit generalization. The additional crossover-adjusted analysis was post hoc. Biomarker differences do not establish better recovery, long-term adaptation or competition performance, and cannot be extended to probiotics generally.
