What the publication reports
Eight studies involving 193 athletes found favourable changes in 10-m sprinting, change of direction and best repeated-sprint time. Several other outcomes, including aerobic performance and vertical jump, did not clearly improve.
Limits and interpretation
The 20-m sprint result was sensitive to removal of one study. Limited studies, varied training doses and incomplete maturation information make a universal youth prescription inappropriate.
