The story

Mary Pierce won the Roland-Garros women’s singles final on 10 June 2000, defeating Conchita Martínez 6–2, 7–5 on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Conchita Martínez’s final forehand return into the net ended her challenge and delivered the title to Pierce.

How it unfolded

Pierce had previously reached the Paris final in 1994. Six years later she controlled the opening set against Martínez before a closer second set decided the championship. The result gave her a second major singles title after her Australian Open victory in 1995.

The wider picture

Pierce also won the women’s doubles title at the same edition. The singles achievement should remain distinct from that team result: this report covers the championship match against Martínez, while the official tournament archive preserves the wider record of her Paris campaign.
