Six goals complete the winter test

Bayern Munich defeated Red Bull Salzburg 6–0 at the Red Bull Arena on 6 January, five days before its Bundesliga return at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Eric Dier headed in the opening goal in the tenth minute. Thomas Müller converted the rebound from a Harry Kane shot in the twenty-fourth, and Michael Olise intercepted goalkeeper Alexander Schlager’s pass to make it 3–0 five minutes later. Olise scored again early in the second half from Konrad Laimer’s setup. A deflected Joshua Kimmich effort and Jonathan Asp Jensen’s finish from Raphaël Guerreiro’s cross completed the score. Bayern made eleven changes during the second half, giving the travelling players an opportunity to contribute during its sole winter friendly. The official report lists attendance at 26,107.

The match statistics show the scale of the advantage

Bayern’s official match record gives the visitors 71 percent possession, twenty shots and ten attempts on target. Salzburg recorded five shots, with two on target. The corner count was twelve to one for Bayern, while the recorded share of duels won was much closer: 50.5 percent for the German club and 49.5 percent for Salzburg. These measures describe different parts of the contest. The possession, shooting and corner totals all show the amount of attacking work Bayern sustained, whereas the duel figures were comparatively even. The statistical page also credits Guerreiro with two assists, Laimer with one and Kimmich with one.

Both camps place the result inside their preparation

Vincent Kompany’s post-match assessment emphasized fitness and completing the evening without injuries after a short break. Müller treated the friendly as a chance to recover competitive rhythm and cautioned that the forthcoming league game still had to be played. Laimer similarly welcomed the immediate return to their game while identifying room for improvement. Salzburg coach Thomas Letsch regarded the heavy defeat as evidence of how much work remained, against an opponent with ambitions in Germany and Europe. Schlager pointed to Salzburg having restarted training only four days earlier and described lessons the team could carry into its preparations. Those reactions gave the large score a clear place in the calendar: a demanding test at the beginning of the year, with competitive fixtures still ahead for both clubs.

Changes reach every part of the Bayern team

The official lineup record confirms Daniel Peretz as Bayern’s starting goalkeeper and Kane as the starting centre forward. Dier partnered Minjae Kim in central defence, with Laimer and Alphonso Davies at full back. Kimmich and Leon Goretzka started in midfield. The lineup also lists Thomas Letsch and Vincent Kompany as the two head coaches and Markus Hameter as the referee. Together with the substitutions recorded in the match account, the team sheet shows the breadth of personnel involved in the friendly.
