Boca completes the round with another victory
Boca Juniors defeated Ferro Carril Oeste 3–0 on 28 January in Buenos Aires, closing the second round of the Liga Argentina Femenina. FeVA’s official competition schedule records the fixture at 21:00 and confirms the straight-sets result. It was Boca’s third league victory of January, following the opener against San José and the second-round meeting with San Lorenzo. Ferro had begun with two wins before losing its two second-round fixtures, first to River and then Boca. The clubs’ next league appointments were already listed: Boca away to CEF 5 La Rioja on 31 January, and Ferro at home to Vélez on 1 February.
The opening weekend had favoured both clubs
FeVA’s opening-round report records Boca’s 3–0 win over San José on 17 January, with set scores 25–13,25–19 and 25–14. Ferro started on 18 January by defeating Normal 3 in straight sets,25–17,25–13 and 25–16, then beat Náutico Avellaneda 3–1 the following evening. Those victories placed Ferro among the teams that collected six points from their opening two matches, alongside defending champion CEF 5,San Lorenzo, Estudiantes and Gimnasia. Boca and River each played one opening-round game and both defeated San José without dropping a set. Instituto also made a successful arrival in the top national competition, winning a five-set match against Vélez before beating Banco Provincia 3–0.
Gimnasia and River set the wider pace
The federation’s second-round account identifies Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata as the new leader with 12 points after four wins. Gimnasia beat Instituto 3–0 on 25 January and recovered from losing the first set against CEF 5 to win 3–1 on 26 January. River also won twice without conceding a set, defeating Ferro and San Lorenzo. Boca’s earlier match in the round had been much closer: it beat San Lorenzo 3–2 on 25 January, winning the deciding set 15–9 after the teams split the first four. San José, Villa Dora and Sonder also collected their first victories. The Boca–Ferro result completed a round that combined a new leader, River’s two straight-sets wins and Boca’s contrasting five-set and three-set successes.
Why the early results mattered
The 2025 competition was the twenty-ninth edition of Argentina’s national women’s league and began on 17 January. FeVA’s launch described a 15-team field. Its format announcement set out a single round-robin regular season, with each team meeting the others once, followed by playoffs and a permanence phase. Early victories therefore contributed to a finite regular-season record rather than a home-and-away series against every opponent. The two promoted entrants were Normal 3 of Rosario and Instituto of Córdoba, champion and runner-up of the preceding Liga Federal. CEF 5 entered as the defending national champion. The January programme began across La Rioja, Córdoba, Entre Ríos and Santa Fe before the second round included the Buenos Aires fixtures.
