Robertson removes defending champion Trump from German Masters
Robertson won 5–2 in Berlin as Wilson and Xiao also booked quarter-final places on 30 January.

Robertson settles the closing frames
Neil Robertson defeated defending champion Judd Trump 5–2 in the German Masters last 16 on 30 January. Robertson took a tight opening frame and eventually secured the second on a respotted black after a safety exchange. Trump recovered to 2–2, but Robertson won the remaining three frames and finished with breaks of 86 and 131. The Australian had collected 24 ranking titles yet had never won this event. His Berlin victory put him three wins from changing that record. Trump, already a three-time German Masters champion, could no longer retain the title he had won against Si Jiahui the previous year.
The quarter-final field takes shape
TNT Sports’ live coverage confirmed the completed evening score and Robertson’s next pairing with Yuan Sijun. Yuan eliminated the recently crowned Masters champion Shaun Murphy 5–4, creating a second significant departure from the draw. Earlier, Kyren Wilson had beaten Jak Jones 5–3 to book a meeting with Anthony McGill. Aaron Hill’s 5–3 win over Tom Ford paired him with Xiao Guodong. Wu Yize moved through 5–2 against Alexander Ursenbacher and was set to face Barry Hawkins. The quarter-final line-up therefore combined former world champions with players seeking a different kind of breakthrough. Robertson’s win was the evening’s headline result, but the last-sixteen round determined four distinct routes toward the final, with no championship decided that night.
Wilson wins another meeting with Jones
The broadcaster’s Jones–Wilson match record dates their Berlin meeting to 30 January and confirms the 3–5 score from Jones’ perspective. It also lists their 2024 World Championship final, which Wilson won 18–14, and a 6–0 Wilson victory at the 2021 UK Championship. Those displayed fixtures explain the significance of another meeting between the two 2024 finalists without purporting to list every encounter in their careers. Their routes into the Berlin match were also recorded: Jones beat Higgins 5–3 after defeating Taylor, while Wilson beat Zhou Yuelong 5–3 after overcoming Cheung Ka Wai. The record also lists Wilson’s recent 7–10 loss to Murphy in the Masters final, ten days before this match. Both had therefore won twice at the venue before Wilson secured this quarter-final place.
Xiao follows an early exchange with sustained scoring
The tour’s official match centre gives a closer view of Xiao’s 5–1 win over Elliot Slessor. Xiao won the opener 75–50 with a break of 54, then Slessor levelled by taking the second 72–30. Xiao responded with a 102 break in the third and won the fourth 66–30. A 69 break helped him capture the fifth 69–1. Those frame records show how a level start developed into a comfortable result. They also distinguish the last-sixteen match from Xiao’s earlier win over Fan Zhengyi: this was a separate contest on 30 January, with a quarter-final place at stake.
