A second lead decides the match
Samsunspor beat Gaziantep FK 2–1 at the Samsun Yeni 19 Mayıs Stadium on 24 January in the opening match of the Süper Lig’s twenty-first round. Marius Mouandilmadji put the hosts ahead just before halftime, and Kenan Kodro equalised soon after the restart. Soner Aydoğdu then supplied the late winning goal. The broadcaster’s original highlights describe Mouandilmadji volleying home after Carlo Holse’s cross struck Lubomir Šatka. Kodro subsequently capitalised on a short pass from goalkeeper Okan Kocuk. For the winner, Marc Bola delivered from the left and Ercan Kara set up Aydoğdu. Samsunspor had regained the advantage after its first lead lasted only across the interval.
Both benches affect the score
The visiting club’s official match report records Aydoğdu replacing Holse in the eightieth minute. Kara, who helped create the decisive goal, had replaced Mouandilmadji six minutes earlier. Thomas Reis also introduced Celil Yüksel for Olivier Ntcham and Landry Dimata for Kingsley Schindler in a double change during the second half. Gaziantep coach Selçuk İnan made three substitutions at halftime: Kodro, Halil Dervişoğlu and Christopher Lungoyi replaced Emmanuel Boateng, Kacper Kozłowski and David Okereke. Kodro’s equaliser therefore came shortly after his introduction. The two scorers after halftime had both started on the bench, with Aydoğdu giving Samsunspor the final advantage. Ümit Öztürk refereed the match, assisted by Bilal Gölen and Emrah Ünal.
Gaziantep’s January run ends
Gaziantep’s official season archive shows an unbeaten start to January before this visit to Samsun. The club drew 2–2 away to Kasımpaşa on 5 January, defeated Adana Demirspor 1–0 at home on 12 January and drew 0–0 with Bodrum at home on 18 January. Its preceding league match had been a 2–0 home win over Antalyaspor on 22 December. The defeat thus ended a four-match unbeaten league run, with two wins and two draws. It also completed a pair of league defeats to Samsunspor that season: the first meeting in Gaziantep, on 18 August, had finished 1–0 to the visitors. The January return brought another one-goal margin.
Points and remembrance
The contemporaneous broadcaster’s recap places Samsunspor third on 40 points after the win, while Gaziantep remained eighth on 26. A minute of silence before kickoff commemorated victims of the Bolu Kartalkaya hotel fire and the 1989 Samsunspor team bus crash. Stadium music was not played because of the fire. The city had held a separate football remembrance programme on 20 January, the thirty-sixth anniversary of the crash. Samsun Metropolitan Municipality’s account names coach Nuri Asan, players Muzaffer Badalıoğlu, Mete Adanır and Zoran Tomic, and driver Asım Özkan among those remembered. A historical Samsunspor photo exhibition at the municipal arts centre was scheduled to remain open through 24 January, the date of this home match. The club’s chairman had joined the remembrance programme remotely earlier in the week.
