Source publication date:
Ken Cole, the coach who led Adelaide 36ers to their first NBL championship, died aged eighty-two. A member of the Australian Basketball and Adelaide halls of fame, he remained closely involved with the Sixers through later administrative and supporter roles.
Cole represented Australia at the 1964 Olympic Games and the 1962 and 1970 World Championships. After moving into coaching, he took Adelaide to the 1985 final and the 1986 title, when the team finished 24–2 and became known as the Invincibles.
That season earned him the NBL coach of the year award. Cole returned as president of Adelaide Basketball in 2018 and became the club's number-one ticket holder in 2021; the Sixers announced plans to honour his contribution during their next playoff fixture.
