FIBA Africa used the U18 AfroBasket in Abidjan to distribute basketballs under its regional development programme. The symbolic presentation took place on 13 August during the quarter-final between Côte d’Ivoire and Egypt.

The programme provides each national federation with an annual allocation of 300 balls: 100 each in sizes five, six and seven. FIBA said participating delegations received that allocation, while participating teams received another 50 balls, split equally between sizes six and seven.

Each player at the competition also received a ball. The equipment is intended for local clubs, academies and federation activities. The annual programme targets all 54 African national federations, but that regional ambition should not be mistaken for proof that every federation received equipment at this particular ceremony.
