Barcelona confirmed João Cancelo’s return on loan from Al Hilal until the end of the season. The Portuguese defender was assigned the number 2 shirt and completed the signing ceremony at the club’s offices on Tuesday.
Cancelo had previously played for Barcelona in 2023/24 on loan from Manchester City. During that spell he made 42 appearances, including 32 in La Liga and ten in the Champions League, and contributed four goals and five assists.
The club recorded 45 appearances for Al Hilal over a season and a half before this second Barcelona move. At his presentation, Cancelo emphasised his attachment to Barcelona and his wish to help the team pursue silverware after his earlier loan produced no trophy.
