Chess joins Argentina’s Olympic Beach programme
Beach tournaments and open boards introduce chess within a multi-city summer sports initiative.
Source publication date:
Argentina’s Olympic Beach programme formally opened at Horizonte Beach Club in Mar del Plata on January 8. FIDE reported chess participation through the Argentine Chess Federation as the initiative promoted sport and Olympic values ahead of the Santa Fe South American Games.
The programme runs from January 7 to February 1 across eight locations, including Mar del Plata, Rosario and Concepción del Uruguay. Activities include competitions, free clinics, youth sessions and environmental work along the participating coastal and urban sites.
The Mar del Plata Chess Federation staged a blitz tournament at Varese Beach during the launch. Open boards, simultaneous exhibitions and inclusive sessions offered additional ways to participate, placing chess alongside other sports within the broader public programme.
