NBL clubs host Challenge families at Melbourne derby
Children met players on court before United’s game against South East Melbourne.
Source publication date:
The NBL, Melbourne United and South East Melbourne welcomed families supported by Challenge to the clubs’ February derby at John Cain Arena. Children affected by cancer met players from both teams on court before tip-off and had photographs taken with them.
Challenge provides practical, social and emotional support to children and families throughout the year, including hospital programmes, camps and family assistance. The invitation followed another basketball-related appearance that organisers said had failed to provide the experience the families hoped for.
League chief executive David Stevenson and United chief executive Nick Truelson described the evening as a community opportunity around the sport. Challenge chief executive David Rogers thanked the organisations for coordinating the experience and supporting the participating children and their families.
