O’Neill lowers Irish indoor 800m record in Boston
The Providence student ran 2:00.33 to replace a national mark dating from 2021.

Maeve O’Neill set an Irish indoor 800m record of 2:00.33 at the Saucony Battle for Boston meeting. The 21-year-old Doheny AC runner improved Síofra Cléirigh Büttner’s 2021 national mark of 2:00.58 while winning her heat at Boston University.
O’Neill passed 400 metres in 59.09 and reached 600 metres in 1:29.74. Her finishing time also met the automatic qualifying standard for the World Indoor Championships in Torun, with the national record remaining subject to ratification.
The Providence College student moved to a level surpassed outdoors by only six Irish women. At the same meeting, Carmen Runners athlete James Gormley recorded a mile personal best of 3:53.38, moving to eighth on Ireland’s indoor list.
