New Zealand Breakers and Petteri Koponen agreed to end his tenure as head coach after two seasons. The club said he wished to pursue opportunities nearer Finland, while his departure followed the Breakers' victory over Adelaide in the inaugural Ignite Cup final.
Basketball operations president Dillon Boucher described the agreement as mutual and praised Koponen's professionalism and commitment. The Finnish coach finished with twenty-three wins and thirty-nine losses, alongside the new cup title that provided a successful closing achievement for the team.
Koponen thanked the players, supporters and club for embracing him and said the experience would inform his next coaching challenge. The Breakers announced a global search for a successor capable of building on the existing performance culture and improving their position in the NBL.
