FIDAL Rieti cancelled its scheduled Esordienti athletics meeting following the death of local sporting figure Gioacchino Fusacchia. Provincial president Renato Sofia announced the decision as the city’s sports community paid tribute.
Fusacchia had strong ties to basketball in Rieti. A viewing was arranged for Sunday morning at Pala Cordoni, next to the Raul Guidobaldi athletics facility, prompting the committee to alter its competition plans.
Sofia said only pole vault and triple jump would proceed during the planned programme, with affected clubs to be informed. FIDAL Lazio joined the local sporting community’s condolences and presented the cancellation as a gesture of respect.
