William Hickey signs with South Bay Lakers
The Illawarra guard joins the NBA G League after posting career-best NBL season averages.
Source publication date:
Illawarra Hawks guard William Hickey signed with the South Bay Lakers, the Los Angeles Lakers' NBA G League affiliate. The move follows a domestic campaign in which the Australian international improved several statistical categories after helping Illawarra win the previous NBL championship.
Hickey averaged 12.7 points, 6.3 assists, 5.9 rebounds and one block during NBL26. Those figures were career highs, reflecting a larger contribution across scoring, playmaking, rebounding and defence for the Hawks before his opportunity in the United States.
He had played 122 NBL matches across South East Melbourne, Melbourne United and Illawarra. South Bay held a 22–9 record when the signing was reported, while Hickey remained contracted to the Hawks for the following Australian season.
