Sixteen nations begin the AFC Futsal Asian Cup in Jakarta

The AFC Futsal Asian Cup opened on 27 January with 16 teams divided into four groups. Host Indonesia began with a 5-0 victory over Korea Republic, while the field included established champions Iran and Japan alongside teams from across West, Central, South and Southeast Asia.

The event continued to 7 February. The complete official record later placed Iran first after a penalty-shootout win over Indonesia, but this January entry preserves the opening-week context and connects it to the finished tournament.
