Koech and Chepngeno break both Köln Marathon course records
Bernard Kiprop Koech won in 2:06:10 and Jackline Chepngeno in 2:21:34 as both marathon records fell in Köln.
Bernard Kiprop Koech and Jackline Chepngeno produced new men's and women's course records at the Generali Köln Marathon on 4 October. The organiser recorded Koech at 2:06:10 and Chepngeno at 2:21:34; World Athletics' completed result page confirms Chepngeno's winning mark and the women's classification.
Habtamu Birlew followed Koech in 2:06:30 and Raymond Choge placed third in 2:07:20. Fantu Shugi was second in the women's race in 2:24:26, with Ayantu Kumela third in 2:25:53. The organiser reported that both leading men were inside the previous course record and that Chepngeno improved the women's mark set in 2012.
The same race-day programme also produced half-marathon course records for Richard Ringer in 1:01:50 and Esther Pfeiffer in 1:07:24. iintroo covers the four record performances as one underlying Köln race-day development rather than separate winner stories.
