World Athletics announced the entry process for its 2026 Photograph of the Year award on 14 October. Professional photographers who attended an athletics event during 2026 can submit one photograph through the federation's online form. Entries must arrive by 23:59 Monaco time on 30 October and the image file must be no larger than 5MB.

Each submission must include a caption, the date the picture was taken, technical information and a photographer biography of no more than 50 words. A five-person panel will select three finalists. The panel comprises Usain Bolt, Christel El Saneh, Dawn Harper-Nelson, Pascal Rondeau and Dan Vernon, bringing athlete, broadcasting and photography backgrounds to the judging process.

The finalists are due to be revealed on 9 November, with a public-voting stage on World Athletics' Instagram channel from 9 to 15 November. The winner is scheduled to be announced on 28 November, ahead of the awards in Monaco on 29 November. This is a call for entries, not an announcement of finalists or a winner; none of those future decisions is treated as already completed.
