World Gymnastics addresses Russian visa refusals before Rotterdam Worlds
The federation confirmed the issue affects three athletes and said entry decisions rest with Dutch authorities.
World Gymnastics confirmed on 14 October that three Russian athletes preparing for the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam had been refused visas. The championships are scheduled for 17–25 October.
The federation said visa decisions are made solely by Dutch authorities and that it could not explain why particular applications were rejected. It reported continuing discussions with the authorities, the local organising committee and the Russian Gymnastics Federation, while expressing regret over the effect on the delegation’s preparations.
The statement did not announce a reversal, a successful appeal or final accreditation outcomes. Those matters therefore remain unresolved in the published official account. World Gymnastics also directed readers to its separate May 2026 decision lifting restrictions on Russian and Belarusian athletes; sporting eligibility and permission to enter the host country are separate decisions.
President Morinari Watanabe is scheduled to hold a press conference at Rotterdam Ahoy at 11:00 local time on 16 October. The announcement establishes a planned briefing, not its outcome.
