Katsuki and Toxanbayeva win the first Asian Games marathon race walks

Hayato Katsuki and Yasmina Toxanbayeva became the inaugural champions as marathon race walking entered the Asian Games programme in Nagoya.

Marathon race walking made its Asian Games debut in Nagoya with separate men's and women's finals. Japan's Hayato Katsuki won the men's title in 3:03:36, finishing 3:04 ahead of China's Zhou Yingcheng; Japan's Motofumi Suwa took bronze in 3:08:57.

Kazakhstan's Yasmina Toxanbayeva won the women's race in 3:22:20 on her first start over the marathon distance. China's Danzengquzong earned silver in 3:26:09 and compatriot Ma Li completed the podium in 3:32:26.

The Olympic Council of Asia published separate official reports for both completed finals. The results are recorded as the first Asian Games champions in the new marathon race walking discipline.
