Tina Maze won the women's European Cup giant slalom at Rogla on 8 January 2000. Racing in Slovenia, she finished with a final time of 2:28.56 and an advantage of 0.82 seconds over Canada's Britt Janyk. Austria's Selina Heregger took third, 1.49 seconds behind the winner.
Austria supplied three consecutive finishers from third through fifth. Martina Lechner was fourth at 1.80 seconds and Carolina Waidhofer-Dummer fifth at 1.89. Sweden's Janette Hargin completed the top six at 1.95. Maze and Janyk were the only classified competitors within one second of the winning time, leaving a clear gap to the following podium position.
The giant slalom was the opening competition of the women's European Cup visit to Rogla, before a separate slalom on 9 January. The result put a Slovenian athlete first ahead of Canadian and Austrian competitors in a race hosted in Slovenia. The official result identifies Maze's birth year as 1983, placing this victory in the early stage of her international racing career.
