The final result
Patrick Wirth and Christoph Gruber shared victory in the men's European Cup downhill at Les Orres on 26 January 2000. Both Austrians recorded 1:20.32 and were classified jointly first. Switzerland's Konrad Hari finished third, 0.34 seconds behind the equal winning time.
Italy's Ivan Bormolini took fourth at 0.37 seconds, just three hundredths behind Hari. Roland Assinger was fifth at 0.40 and Andreas Buder sixth at 0.71. Austria held four of the leading six positions, including both winners. The third, fourth and fifth finishers were separated by only six hundredths, adding another close contest behind the dead heat for first.
The downhill was the opening classified race in Les Orres' men's European Cup speed programme. A second downhill followed on 27 January and a super-G on 28 January. The official result assigns rank one to both Wirth and Gruber and then rank three to Hari, so this outcome contains two winners and no second-place finisher. Their equal times are preserved in the archive rather than imposing an artificial order between the Austrian racers.
