The final result
Ivan Bormolini won the men's European Cup downhill at St. Anton on 13 January 2000. The Italian completed the race in 1:55.85, edging Switzerland's Didier Défago by 0.11 seconds. Ludwig Sprenger finished third at 0.12, so only one hundredth of a second separated the second and third places.
Austria's Roland Assinger was fourth at 0.32 seconds and Slovenia's Jernej Koblar fifth at 0.46. Patrick Wirth completed the first six at 0.68. Italy claimed first and third in a leading group drawn from four national teams. All six finishers were within seven tenths of Bormolini's winning time, reflecting the close contest recorded in the final classification.
The downhill opened the classified racing programme of the St. Anton men's European Cup meeting. The official event listing then scheduled a second downhill for 14 January and a super-G for 15 January. Bormolini's victory belongs to the first of those three completed competitions, each with its own final result; its 0.11-second winning gap is independent of the ranking-point figures.
