The WTA Foundation staged the Mubadala Wheelchair Tennis Invitational alongside the Abu Dhabi Open, presenting the UAE’s first standalone wheelchair tennis event exclusively for women. The four-day programme combined elite play with community activities intended to expand participation and coaching experience.

Competitors included Japan’s Yui Kamiji and Colombia’s Angelica Bernal. The event also offered clinics for people with disabilities, coach training and an introductory session that allowed local young participants to experience wheelchair tennis for themselves.

Kamiji defeated Jiske Griffioen 6–3, 6–2 in the exhibition final on centre court. Griffioen and Bernal additionally visited a local medical facility, meeting rehabilitation specialists and discussing the support required by athletes competing in wheelchair tennis.
