Balabay Aghayev won the men’s under-60kg Paris Grand Slam title by defeating Ukraine’s Dilshot Khalmatov in golden score. Regulation time ended with penalties but no positive score, extending a final shaped by intense grip fighting and repeated attempts to create attacking space.

The Azerbaijani found the decisive opportunity while rising from an exchange on the ground, hooking his opponent’s leg and throwing him backward. It was Aghayev’s third Grand Slam gold medal and the first men’s title awarded during the Paris tournament.

Izhak Ashpiz took his first Grand Slam medal by beating Korea’s Harim Lee for bronze with three scores. Kazakhstan’s Aman Bakytzhan won the other bronze against Jonathan Charon, overturning the Cuban’s earlier pressure with a yuko in the opening moments of golden score.
