Katerini decides the 2026 beach wrestling world titles
Final-stop winners and season champions were not always the same athletes.
Source publication date:
The fifth and final stop of the 2026 Beach Wrestling World Series concluded in Katerini on 27 September. The official report recorded 97 senior athletes from 18 nations, with quadruple ranking points influencing the season standings.
Ana Maria Rotaru became the women’s 50kg world champion although Diana Rysova won the Katerini final. Olena Nikitinska likewise secured the women’s 70kg season crown while Romana Vovchak won the stop. The distinction matters: a final-event gold medal did not automatically confer the World Championship title.
Eliana Bommarito secured a fourth consecutive world crown. Vusal Aliyev retained the men’s 80kg championship, and Mamuka Kordzaia won his fourth career world title in the men’s +90kg category.
The official results separate the Katerini tournament podiums from the final World Championship standings. Readers comparing medals should use the correct classification rather than treating the two lists as interchangeable.
