Akinola’s world indoor campaign ends in sprint semi-final
The UCD sprinter ran 6.60 after advancing through the morning heats.

Bori Akinola finished sixth in his sixty-metre semi-final at the World Indoor Championships in Toruń, running 6.60 seconds. The result ended his bid for a place in the final after he had qualified automatically with 6.59 earlier in the day.
The UCD athlete expressed disappointment with the final race while describing the indoor season as a significant step forward. He said his faster performances had raised his expectations and welcomed finishing the campaign healthy before preparing for outdoor competition.
James Gormley also exited in the men’s fifteen-hundred-metre heats, placing ninth in his race in 3:50.71. At his first senior international championship in the event, he stayed in contention until the final lap but could not respond to the decisive acceleration.
